Lisa Marie Fernandez

New York stylist - turned designer Lisa Marie Fernandez's Spring/Summer 2011 collection is so good, its the first 'fashion' related thing I am posting...but really, its all art. Her collection is basically a wicked combination of versatile, colour blocked, scuba zipper, neoprene items for in and out of the water. They're not your regular swim suit investment, most pieces averaging at around $400, but I'm sure any fashion lover- and myself, could justify it.

Awesome collection.

Paper Folding

Human Figures By Giang Dinh

Check out this wicked documentary by filmmaker Vanessa Gould called "Between The Folds", about origami as an art form and as a science. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it, and I'm sure you'll have a new appreciation for the art form after seeing it too. Its pretty profound..the limited medium, the self contained final product, the manipulation, the process of creating, the math behind it..i could go on and on and on... The film features spotlights on the legendary Akira Yoshizawa, who was basically the grandfather of origami, and even Erik Demaine, who is a mathematician, has his PhD in Computational Origami and is a professor at MIT.  It's an awesome film, check it out

Stephen Bennett, The Portrait Painter

Stephen Bennett is an amazingly talented American artist. I was lucky enough to catch some of his "Faces of the World" exhibition in Dubai back in January. The exhibit featured a number of works by Bennett at the Atlantis hotel's East Gallery, and we just happened to be walking by as he was working on one of his pieces late one evening. Stephen is known world wide for his breathtaking portraits of indigenous people from all around the world. I think what sets his work apart is his bold and descriptive use of colour, and how he uses this as a vehicle through which he is able to achieve remarkable detail and personality, all in a single human face. He often works with large scales, and aims to have the viewer experience our "common humanity". He is also the founder of a non-profit organization also named "Faces of the World" which aims to increase and support cultural pride all around the world, and which is actually funded partly from the sales of his own paintings. http://www.facesoftheworld.net/
